Plot Summary

Libby, (29) a struggling journalist, is on a flying family visit to Noosa when the suicide of an old friend, Sarah, forces her to extend her stay.

At the funeral she is reunited with four other school mates; Corinne a conspiracy theorist, Narelle, a hairdresser, Stacey a mum, and Chris a librarian. Corinne is convinced that this is a murder not a suicide. Libby dismisses this, until a letter arrives from her dead friend, on the same day that she is run off the road.

Libby reluctantly agrees that Corinne could be right. The five of them start to dig into the strangely poetic letter that Sarah has left them.

Corinne is convinced Sarah’s death is connected to three other deaths over the years, right back to the disappearance of their friend Rachel, 15 years earlier. Still sceptical, Libby offers that Sarah could have suffered depression due to a new herbal medication.

While Narelle and Stacey find a connection between their friend Stacey find a connection between their friend’s death and a former teacher who they suspect was a child molester. Excited, Corinne heads off to consult with her secret source, only to be found the next morning, dead.

The police put the death down to an accident, but the remaining friends know better. Libby befriends a local cop, befriends a local cop, Terry. Using the information she gleans from him, she follows up the herbal medication lead – this also ends up in a death.

Terry begins to suspect Libby isn’t being honest with him and despite this, or because of this, they start a tenuous relationship.

Libby discovers a handmade locket containing a sliver of crystal in Sarah a sliver of crystal in Sarah’s belongings. The locket gives her a sense of wellbeing, so she keeps it. It proves to be the clue that links the dead women with the supposed child molester. Their digging also uncovers a doppelganger that Narelle recognises from town.

When Narelle turns up dead, Stacey is so spooked, she abandon’s the search to be with her kids. Now
down to just the two of them, Libby and Chris vow to take this through to the end.

They track down the child molester in an old people’s home. He is suffering dementia and his rantings lead them to a cabin in the everglades. They take Terry with them, hoping to find their attacker. Instead they find Rachel. But Rachel doesn’t look a day over 17.

She pleads that she has been hiding from a cult, and that her appearance is due to the healing power within a crystal, part of which is in the old locket that Libby has. Rachel wants it back, but when Libby questions her, Rachel turns on them, attacking Chris and snatching back the crystal.

Libby and Terry track Rachel deeper into the Everglades, hoping to take back the crystal to save Chris’ life, but they quickly become the hunted. Terry falls prey to the inhabitants of the everglades and Libby ends up stumbling into a secret community.

It’s Rachel’s cult. And Rachel is their new leader.
