Scrap Metal Hearts Synopsis

A headstrong teenager and her widowed father are struggling to keep their farm viable when the new landlord’s troubled son arrives to stay for the summer. Despite loathing each other at first, the two teens bond over a shared secret that could prove to be the key to saving the farm.

Scrap Metal Hearts is more than just a young love story. It’s a film that centres around themes of grief, forgiveness, redemption and how creating art can bring people together.  It’s a wholesome film that doesn’t alienate those with strong religious beliefs, therefore opening the way to a truly universal audience. It displays a cathartic narrative, authentic characters and the opportunity to showcase great Australian music.

The message at the core of Scrap Metal Hearts is when you create art out of your own truth, its authenticity will hit a chord with all who experience it. Grieving over her mother’s passing, our headstrong teenager, Stephanie decides to create a monument out of her mother’s possessions. It is an expression of love that transcends language and boundaries and ultimately binds the community together.

The rural landscape I set this in is around the Liverpool plains. However, this location could translate to other states with similar landscapes equally as well.

Comparable films would be family friendly, humanist dramas about love and belonging like Red Dog and Lion.

The script is in it’s final stages of development.

Praise for Scrap Metal Hearts

In 2022 it was a Top 10 finalist in the Screencraft Feature Film comp. Semi finalist in Raindance. Quarter finalist in PAGE International Screenwriting awards and Austin film fest.  Not bad for what is clearly an Australian Indie film.
